What are terazosin capsules? TERAZOSIN (Hytrin®) is an antihypertensive. Terazosin lowers, but does not cure, high blood pressure. It works by relaxing the blood vessels. Terazosin is sometimes used for prostate problems. Generic terazosin capsules are available.
How should you take Hytrin? You may take Hytrin with or without food. Take your first dose at bedtime. Do not take more than the 1 milligram your doctor has prescribed. --If you miss a dose... Take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at the same time. --Storage instructions... Store at room temperature in a cool, dry place. Protect from light.
General information: - If using Terazosin (Hytrin) for an extended period of time, obtain refills before your supply runs out.

How can this medicine affect other medicines? It is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with this medicine. Similarly, check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medicines while taking this one, to ensure that the combination is safe . If Terazosin is taken with other medicines that reduce blood pressure, either as a treatment for high blood pressure (antihypertensives), or as a side effect, there may be an enhanced blood pressure lowering effect. This might make you feel dizzy, particularly with the first dose of Terazosin (Hytrin). If you do feel dizzy, you should lie down until the symptoms pass. If any dizziness persists you should let your doctor know, as your medicine doses may need adjusting. Other medicines that can reduce blood pressure include the following: - phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors for impotence, eg sildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil.
- nitrates, eg glyceryl trinitrate, isosorbide mononitrate
- MAOI antidepressants, eg phenelzine
- levodopa
- diuretics, eg furosemide, bendroflumethiazide
- calcium channel blockers, eg diltiazem, verapamil, nifedipine
- beta-blockers, eg propranolol
- benzodiazepines, eg temazepam
- baclofen
- antipsychotic medicines
- angiotensin II receptor antagonists, eg losartan
- other alpha blockers, eg tamsulosin, doxazosin
- ACE inhibitors, eg enalapril, captopril
What drug(s) may interact with Terazosin (Hytrin)? Do not take Terazosin if you are taking the following medications: other alpha-blockers such as doxazosin, phentolamine, phenoxybenzamine, prazosin, tamsulosin
Terazosin may also interact with the following medications: medicines for colds and breathing difficulties medicines for high blood pressure hawthorn monoamine oxidase inhibitors (Azilect®, Eldepryl®, Emsam®, Marplan®, Nardil®, Parnate®, Zelapar) sildenafil (doses of sildenafil higher than 25 mg should be taken at least 4 hours apart from taking Terazosin (Hytrin)) tadalafil vardenafil water pills
Tell your prescriber or health care professional about all other medicines you are taking, including nonprescription medicines, nutritional supplements, alfuzosin, or herbal products. Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs.
