What are perindopril tablets? PERINDOPRIL (Aceon ® ) is a medication which lowers blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels; it is not a cure. High blood pressure levels can damage your kidneys, and may lead to a stroke or heart failure. Generic perindopril tablets are not yet available.
Possible food and drug interactions when taking Aceon (Perindopril) If Aceon (Perindopril) is taken with certain other drugs, decreased, the effects of either could be increased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Aceon with the following: Cyclosporine (Neoral, Lithobid, and Slow-K Lithium (Eskalith, K-Tab, and Moduretic Indomethacin (Indocin) Potassium supplements such K-Lyte, Lasix, Dyazide, Diuril, Sandimmune) Diuretics such as Aldactone, Lithonate) Digoxin (Lanoxin) Gentamicin (Garamycin)
Recommended dosage ADULTS The usual starting dosage is 4 milligrams daily, taken as a single dose or divided into two smaller doses. Your doctor may increase the dosage until your blood pressure is under control, up to a maximum of 16 milligrams per day. A dose of 4 to 8 milligrams a day is usually sufficient. If you have been taking a diuretic, your doctor may tell you to stop taking it 2 or 3 days before you start taking Aceon (Perindopril). If you need to continue the diuretic without interruption, the doctor may start you on Aceon at a reduced dose of 2 to 4 milligrams daily, then gradually increase the dosage if necessary. If your blood pressure is not adequately controlled with Aceon (Perindopril) alone, the doctor may add a diuretic to your regimen. Aceon (Perindopril) has not been tested in people with severe kidney disease. If you have mild kidney problems, the usual starting dosage is 2 milligrams or less per day. The dosage may be increased gradually to not more than 8 milligrams per day. CHILDREN Aceon (Perindopril) has not been tested in children. OLDER ADULTS Higher doses (above 8 milligrams a day) are prescribed for older adults only with extra caution.
Where can I keep my medicine? Keep out of the reach of children in a container that small children cannot open.
Store at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Protect from moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
Perindopril side effects Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; severe stomach pain; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: - jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes).
- chest pain; or
- swelling, rapid weight gain;
- tired feeling, muscle weakness, and pounding or uneven heartbeats;
- pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding;
- fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms;
- urinating more or less than usual, or not at all;
- feeling light-headed, fainting;
Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as: - mild skin itching or rash.
- diarrhea, upset stomach; or
- sleep problems (insomnia);
- dizziness, drowsiness, headache;
- muscle or joint pain;
- cough, stuffy nose;
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
