Do not take Nortriptyline with any of the following medications: astemizole (Hismanal ® ), SAM-e, kava kava, including contraceptive or birth control pills and estrogen galantamine herbs and dietary supplements like ephedra (Ma huang), such as warfarin bromocriptine bupropion cimetidine clonidine cocaine delavirdine diphenoxylate disulfiram donepezil drugs for treating HIV infection female hormones, such as phenobarbital blood thinners, tolterodine and others barbiturate medicines for inducing sleep or treating seizures (convulsions), scopolamine, tranylcypromine (Parnate ® ) medicines called MAO inhibitors-phenelzine (Nardil ® ) thioridazine (Mellaril ® ) probucol terfenadine (Seldane ® ) cisapride (Propulsid ® ) other medicines for mental depression (may be duplicate therapies or cause additive side effects)
Nortriptyline may also interact with any of the following medications: alcohol antacids atropine and related drugs like hyoscyamine, isocarboxazid (Marplan ® ), selegiline (Eldepryl ® ), St. John's wort, nutritional supplements, including non-prescription medicines, sparfloxacin) tacrine thyroid hormones such as gatifloxacin, levofloxacin, linezolid, moxifloxacin, sotalol, levothyroxine

What is Nortriptyline (Pamelor)? Nortriptyline (Pamelor) is in a group of drugs called tricyclic antidepressants. Nortriptyline affects chemicals in the brain that may become unbalanced. Nortriptyline (Pamelor) is used to treat symptoms of depression. Nortriptyline (Pamelor) may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Why should Pamelor not be prescribed? If you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to Pamelor or similar drugs, you should not take this medication. Make sure your doctor is aware of any drug reactions you have experienced. Do not take Pamelor if you are taking--or have taken within the past 14 days--a drug classified as an MAO inhibitor. Drugs in this category include the antidepressants Nardil and Parnate. Combining these drugs with Pamelor can cause fever and convulsions, and could even be fatal. Unless you are directed to do so by your doctor, do not take this medication if you are recovering from a heart attack or are taking any other antidepressant drugs. If you have been taking Prozac, you may have to wait at least 5 weeks before beginning therapy with Pamelor. A drug interaction could result.
