Why is Imdur prescribed? Imdur is prescribed to prevent angina pectoris (crushing chest pain that results when partially clogged arteries restrict the flow of needed oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle). This medication does not relieve angina attacks already underway.

Viagra® (tadalafil), or Levitra® (sildenafil), Cialis® (vardenafil) should not be taken with this medication to avoid severe side effects including very low blood pressure and other complications.

Also tell your prescriber or health care professional if you are a frequent user of drinks with caffeine or alcohol, if you smoke, or if you use illegal drugs. Not to be used in - Very low blood pressure (severe hypotension)
- Severe anaemia
- Narrowing of the main artery coming from the heart (aortic stenosis)
- Narrowing of one of the valves in the heart (mitral valve stenosis)
- Low volume of circulating blood (hypovolaemia)
- Inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart which stops the heart from beating properly (constrictive pericarditis)
- Heart disease in which the muscle of the heart grows abnormally (hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy)
- Head injury
- Failure of the heart to maintain adequate circulation of blood (cardiogenic shock)
- Failure of the blood circulatory system (circulatory collapse)
- Closed angle glaucoma
- Blood in the sac surrounding the heart which prevents the heart beating properly (cardiac tamponade)
- Bleeding in the brain (cerebral haemorrhage)
- Allergy to nitrates

The combination could cause severe or life-threatening low blood pressure. Before taking isosorbide mononitrate, tell your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines: - any other heart medicines, especially those used to treat high blood pressure or irregular heartbeats.
- dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45); or
You may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during your treatment if you are taking any of the medicines listed above. Do not drink alcohol. Like isosorbide mononitrate, alcohol widens your blood vessels, and it can cause very low blood pressure, dizziness, and drowsiness. If you combine isosorbide mononitrate and alcohol, you could endanger yourself or others. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with isosorbide mononitrate or affect your condition.
