What are isoniazid tablets? ISONIAZID (INH™) is used to treat or prevent tuberculosis. For treatment of tuberculosis, other medicines may be used together with isoniazid. For prevention of tuberculosis, isoniazid may be given alone. Generic isoniazid tablets are available.
Side effects Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect. - Kidney failure
- Inflammation of the optic nerve (the nerve connecting the eye to the brain) which results in blurring of vision (optic neuritis)
- Decrease in the number of platelets in the blood (thrombocytopenia)
- Sudden severe deficiency in the number of white blood cells in the blood (agranulocytosis)
- Shortness of breath
- Loss of appetite
- "Pins and needles" sensation in hands and feet (peripheral neuritis)
- Inflammation of the liver (hepatitis)
- Nausea and vomiting
- Cold or flu-like symptoms
- Excessive breakdown of red blood cells that reduces red blood cell count (haemolytic anaemia)
- Loss of contact with reality (psychosis)
- Alteration in results of liver function tests
- Seizures (convulsions)
- Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)
- Red colouration of urine
- Allergy to active ingredients (hypersensitivity)
- Diarrhoea
- Rash
