What are felodipine extended-release tablets? FELODIPINE (Plendil®) is a calcium-channel blocker. It affects the amount of calcium found in your heart and muscle cells. This results in relaxation of blood vessels, which can reduce the amount of work the heart has to do. Felodipine reduces high blood pressure (hypertension). It is not a cure. Generic felodipine extended-release tablets are available.
Possible food and drug interactions when taking Plendil (Felodipine) If Plendil (Felodipine) is taken with certain other drugs, decreased, the effects of either could be increased, or altered. How can this medicine affect other medicines? Felodipine enhances the blood pressure lowering effect of other medicines used to lower blood pressure, such as ACE inhibitors, beta-blockers or diuretics. This may sometimes cause dizziness. The amount of felodipine in the blood is decreased by the following medicines: - phenytoin - carbamazapine - phenobarbital (phenobarbitone). Your doctor may increase your felodipine dose because of this. The amount of felodipine in the blood may be increased by the following medicines: - erythromycin - itraconazole - cimetidine. Your doctor may decrease your felodipine dose if you take any of these medicines. Felodipine may increase the blood level of tacrolimus. If these medicines are taken together your doctor may need to adjust your tacrolimus dose.
