Clonidine is used for: Treating high blood pressure. It may be used alone or with other medicines. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor. Clonidine is an alpha agonist. It works by relaxing (dilating) blood vessels and decreasing heart rate, which lowers blood pressure.
How can this medicine affect other medicines? It is important to tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with this medicine. Similarly, check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new medicines while taking this one, to ensure that the combination is safe . This medicine will increase the blood pressure lowering effects of other medicines for high blood pressure. There may be an increased risk of drowsiness and sedation if this medicine is taken with any of the following (which can also cause drowsiness): - sleeping tablets, eg zopiclone.

If you are taking this medicine in combination with a beta-blocker medicine, eg atenolol or propanolol, there is a risk of a rebound increase in blood pressure if you stop taking this medicine.
